Always Learning, Always Teaching
There are a handful of books that have defined my career and helped us define our company culture and values. Most of these books were recommended to me by mentors and colleagues over the years. I have been lucky throughout my career to work with several men and women who took the time to share their wisdom and resources with me, and I have tried to pass that habit along to my coworkers here at Code 3 AV. We are always learning and always teaching. We are generous with our knowledge.
Be A Leader
Leaders understand the value of reading as a tool for continuous learning, broadening perspectives, improving communication skills, and enhancing critical thinking. By embracing reading, leaders can expand their knowledge, improve their leadership capabilities, and inspire those around them to strive for personal and professional growth. Books ignite creativity and imagination. For employees in the audiovisual industry, reading books can help them think outside the box, explore new concepts, and develop fresh ideas for their projects and teams. Reading encourages intellectual curiosity, enabling new leaders to seek out alternative viewpoints and challenge their own assumptions.
Book Club Rules
To encourage and inspire more reading at Code 3 AV, I created the Code 3 AV book club. I wanted to inspire my teammates to read the books that have had the most impact on my career and the development of our company values and culture. How did I do it? I released the list of books and set up a few rules.
Code 3 AV Book Club Rules:
Do not talk about book club. (just kidding!)
I will buy the book or audiobook for you.
You must read or listen to the book on your own time.
Once complete, submit an email with a short synopsis of the book along with three things that you will do differently now after having read the book.
You will receive a permanent .25/hr raise for each report turned in.
This can be done 4 times / year.
Inspiring Opportunity
This gives each employee an opportunity for an additional $1/hr raise each year that they can pursue whenever they like. I’ve already had 6 reports turned in this first month, which I find exciting. When they turn in a report, I ask them a couple of questions, and It helps keep the content fresh for me as well. It’s money well spent. These are the books that made me who I am and made Code 3 AV the company it is today.
